Storm Expected to Skirt W. Pa., Slam Northeast

Although a winter weather advisory has been issued for southwestern Pennsylvania, the region should be spared the brunt of the blizzard expected to envelop the Northeast over the next two days.

The same can't be said for the other side of the state, where public works crews were preparing Monday for heavy snow. At least a foot is in the forecast from Philadelphia to Maine.

Gov. Tom Wolf issued a disaster proclamation that allows the Department of Transportation and the Turnpike Commission to restrict speeds on interstate highways.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, the speed limit was reduced to 45 mph on all interstates and expressways from Interstate 99 east and on the turnpike from the Bedford interchange east. In addition, there is a ban on tandem truck trailers, empty trailers, towed trailers, buses, recreational vehicles and motorcycles on those roads. …
