A Wee Bit O' Irish Humor for St. Patrick's

Article excerpt

With St. Patrick's Day on Friday, here's a bit of Irish humor from one of our favorite Irishmen, Father Joe Connolly, beloved pastor at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs:

Two Kerrymen are watching divers off Valentia Island, a popular diving destination in County Kerry on Ireland's scenic Atlantic coast.

Said one, "Why do scuba divers always fall backward off their boats?"

Said the other, "If they fell forward, they'd still be in the bloody boat!"

- Timothy and Casey Wilkinson named their first bundle of love Madison Grace. The beaming grands are Drs. Tom and Suzanne Wilkinson and Ed and Linda Kinkopf.

- The one, the only Eddie Shannon is 95. May he stay forever young.

- A salute to the Manatee High chorus whose stirring performance of our national anthem drew a prolonged ovation from Wednesday's crowd at LECOM Park.

Under the direction of Tommy Jomisko, they are Aliza Aviles, Raegan Capalbo, Samantha Copeland, Dominic DeGaetano, Jackson Edgens, Griffin Heckler, Alex Huynh, Nick Masiello, Charlie Melton, Payne Moore, Jacob Pier, Peighton Rasberry-Zook, Carley Schmitt and Kristie Wymer.

By the way, Tommy will do the anthem honors solo March 27.

- Anna Maria Elementary kindergarten teacher Bridget Krupp Querrard is 39. Again. Happy birthday from Rick Lewis and her daughter Heidi.

- Kim Dalglish is also 39. Again.

- So is Lisa Morrison.

- Helen Chockla Moleski, too.

- And Judy DeMarco.

- Big ups to Haile Middle's Technology Student Association team -- repeat state champions.

Forty-one strong, they cleaned up at the 2017 TSA State Conference and Competition in Orlando. Their haul included 14 first place trophies, seven second places and eight third places.

Haile's TSA officers are president Jordan Brown, vice-president Griffin Hudson, secretary Joseph Giannone, treasurer Hunter Raley, reporter Carlie Phelps, sergeant-at-arms Jordan Sheehan and historian Trevor Davis.

Haile is the two-time defending national middle school champion and aims for a three-peat at the national conference in Orlando in June.

- The Pirate Boosters will honor Bill Carlin and Dick Davis for 20 years of service.

- Sean Murphy's 19th annual Beach Bistro St. Patrick's Day Parade on Holmes Beach will be 4 p.m. next Sunday. …
