'Tow brother': 100 tow trucks take to highways

ESTERHAZY, Sask. - About 100 tow trucks are expected to converge on two highways in Saskatchewan's southeast to honour a driver killed in a four-vehicle crash.

The drivers will be leading a procession into Esterhazy on March 18 ahead of a funeral service for Courtney Schaefer.

Schaefer was killed Tuesday in a crash involving his tow truck, a semi, and two other vehicles during a snowstorm.

The father and husband last year won a CAA Saskatchewan Roadside Assistance Award of Excellence.

Dallas Baillie, who runs a towing company out of Yorkton, says the death has really hit home for him.

Schaefer's company was a family business, like Baillie's.

"My business is all run by family," Baillie said.

"I'm sending my sons out, on the same conditions, to go out and save other people that have run into trouble on the road," Baillie said. …
