Love Rival Stabbing Was 'Self Defence'

A JILTED boyfriend accused of murdering a love rival says he acted in self defence.

Ryan Donnellan, 30, denied murder at a Manchester Crown Court trial, where prosecutors claim he stabbed victim Steven Chadwick because he was 'insanely jealous' of the idea that he would start a relationship with his former partner, Nicola McKeegan.

It's alleged he was armed with a knife and attacked Mr Chadwick after asking Miss McKeegan if he could meet him on the Collyhurst Village estate, late on August 29 last year. But, giving evidence in his defence, Mr Donnellan alleged that Mr Chadwick brought the knife to the meeting.

The jury has heard that taxi driver Mr Chadwick became close to 25-yearold Nicola McKeegan when they worked together at Cresta Cars in Cheetham Hill. It is alleged Mr Chadwick was killed within 48 hours of Mr Donnellan being told the nineyear relationship was over. …
