Wilkinsburg to Tear Down Unsafe Buildings

A number of vacant buildings will be demolished in Wilkinsburg.

Council voted unanimously March 8 to award two demolition contracts for the work.

Collapsing buildings along Clark, South and Franklin avenues as well as others will be torn down, council president Patrick Shattuck said. A total of six addresses will be demolished, but they contain multiple units, he said.

"They are our most dangerous properties," Mr. Shattuck said.

Unsafe, vacant buildings near Hosanna House on Wallace Avenue also will be torn down.

Jadell Minniefield Construction of Pittsburgh received a $92,300 contract, and Lutterman Excavating of Greensburg received a contract for $58,200 for the demolition work.

Also at the meeting, council announced that the borough has a new website, logo and YouTube channel. …
