Florida Firms Hire 16,800 | the Private-Sector Jobs Added in February Was Fewer Than in January

Florida added 16,800 private-sector jobs in February, a drop-off from the 18,600 added in January and slower than the 20,200 in February 2016, according to reports on Wednesday from human resources firm and payroll processor ADP and economists at Moody's Analytics Inc.

The Sunshine State gained 14,800 positions in the service-producing sector and 2,000 in goods-producing.

Manufacturing declined by 500 positions, but all other areas grew, led by professional and business services, at 3,700 new jobs. Naturals resources/mining and construction grew by 2,500 new jobs, while trade, transportation and utilities gained 1,400 new positions.

The manufacturing decline came on the heels of a drop of 800 jobs in January, according to ADP's data.

The overall February performance was still considerably better than the 12,500 jobs added in December, which had been a 46 percent decline and a continuation of a slowdown in November. …
