NAT026 - (NS-Police-Checks) HALIFAX. x-09s. Halifax's police chief defended his forces' street checking practices during a heated discussion with members of the African-Nova Scotian community last night. Jean-Michel Blais fielded concerns about recent police data showed that black men in Halifax were three times more likely than whites to be subject to street checks. Blais says he recognizes the community's concerns about racial profiling, but the mistrust between law enforcement and the black community goes both ways. ("..our communities.")
