After reading the Post-Gazette editorial on the Port Authority's projected bus rapid transit system ("Bring On the BRT: A Promising Rapid Transit Vision Gets Underway," March 13), I'm pretty sure that the writer(s) have never ridden a bus from Oakland to Downtown, maybe any bus. The PG editorial refers to a "half-hour or more" ride when the Port Authority's published schedule pessimistically gives 18 minutes as a ride to or from Ross Street, a ride that is usually less.

Any actual time saved will be lost by riders to and from eastern points who will exit and transfer in Oakland.

The buses are not "weaving in and out of traffic to make pickups and dropoffs." Passengers enter and exit on the right, and Fifth Avenue is one-way inbound and a designated lane outbound, so the only "weaving" is to pass slower or stopped vehicles. …
