By Kuan-lin Liu -- Taiwan's three science parks last year jointly grossed historic amounts in both revenue and exports, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) announced Tuesday.

During a press conference on Tuesday, MOST officials announced that the three parks combined made a revenue of NT$2.37 trillion and exports of NT1.5 trillion last year, marking a 2.94 percent and 9.91 percent increase from the previous year, respectively.

According to MOST's Department of Academia-Industry Collaboration and Science Park Affairs Director General Chiu Chiu-hui ([...]), growth in these industries reflected the demands for automation, medical equipment, smartphones, laptops, and communication-related chips.

Integrated Circuit Boom

On the subject of exports, Chiu noted that 2016 saw a boom in the shipments of 16 nanometer, 20 nanometer, and 28 nanometer integrated circuits, marking a new high in export history.

In particular, Hsinchu Science Park exported NT$803.9 billion worth of goods (an 18 percent year-on-year growth), while Central Taiwan Science Park exported NT$258.7 billion (a 14 percent year-on-year growth).
