CARLI Lloyd scored on her UEFA Women's Champions League debut to give City a vital lead going in to the quarter-final second leg.

Nick Cushing's side dominated the game at Danish champions Fortuna Hjorring and were unlucky to not score more.

Lloyd could have had a hat-trick were it not for the heroics of Fortuna's keeper.

The American international went close to opening her City account on the 20th minute but was denied from point-blank range when a brilliant save from Maria Christensen.

But she finally found the breakthrough for City in the 35th minute when she got on the end of a Jane Ross cross to head City into the lead.

Fortuna struggled to deal with the threat of City going forward, with Melissa Lawley and Kosovare Asllani both causing problems for the home side. …
