Outage on North Shore

About 4,000 Duquesne Light customers in a two-block square of the North Shore were without power for nearly two hours Monday afternoon.

The 4:45 p.m. outage, the cause of which was being investigated, affected a half dozen bars and restaurants, the Hyatt Place hotel, and a number of businesses including the newsroom of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Jessica Rock, a spokeswoman for Duquesne Light, said service was restored to the vast majority of customers by 6:30 p.m. Crews were still working to pinpoint the location of the problem, which was believed to be in an underground cable.

Those without power at 6:30 p.m., Ms. Rock said, likely would be without it until Tuesday morning.
