CALGARY. x-18s. The role of social workers in helping out during natural disasters is the focus of a University of Calgary conference. The aim of the international gathering is to build an Alberta-wide network of social workers ready to assist in natural disasters such as floods and wildfires. Desley Hargreaves from the University of Queensland in Australia says the effects of a disaster can resurface years later as evidenced as victims of the Bali bombing who returned to the scene after a decade.
