Post-Dispatch Staffers Win Aronson Award for Social Justice Reporting

Post-Dispatch reporter Nancy Cambria and photographer Laurie Skrivan have been named winners of a James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism for "The Crisis Within." The project examined the effects of toxic stress from violence and poverty on children in Ferguson, and how to help families heal.

Gary Younge, of The Guardian, will receive a career achievement award.

Other Aronson winners were Ryan Gabrielson and Topher Sanders of ProPublica for "Busted," an investigation published with the New York Times about a flawed drug testing system. Seven staffers with the Texas Tribune won for "Bordering on Insecurity," a series looking at border security and immigration. And Brian Bienkowski of Environmental Health News won for "Sacred Water: Environmental Justice in Indian Country," a yearlong investigation into Indians' fight for clean water. …
