Widow of Man Shot to Death on MetroLink Platform Sues Bi-State

The agency that oversees Metro Transit did not provide adequate security at the Busch Stadium MetroLink stop where Mac Payne was fatally shot, his widow alleges in a lawsuit.

The suit was filed in St. Louis Circuit Court by Jeanette Payne, of St. Louis, against Bi-State Development.

Her husband died after being struck by a bullet fired during an assault and robbery inside a MetroLink train on March 19.

Mac Payne, 57, was standing on the platform when he was shot in the head.

His wife said Friday that they had been married 32 years and had one son together. She said her husband loved riding his bike.

Discharge papers provided by MacArthur Moten, the attorney representing Jeanette Payne, show he served in the Navy.

Bi-State does not comment on pending litigation, a spokesman said Friday. …
