LANCASHIRE will head into their opening match of the Specsavers County Championship on Friday on the back of one of their biggest ever wins in first-class cricket.

The Red Rose, who start their Division One campaign against Essex at Chelmsford, bowled out Cambridge University for just 56 in their second innings yesterday to wrap-up a 340-run win over two days.

They could, however, head to Essex without opener Haseeb Hameed. The young England star was struck on the hand by a delivery on Sunday and, although a scan has revealed there is no break, he is being assessed over the next few days before a decision is made over his fitness for Friday.

Jimmy Anderson took 5-10, Stephen Parry 2-0 and Kyle Jarvis 2-15 as Cambridge were skittled out for 62 in their first innings yesterday morning.

The wickets were shared around in the second, with Jordan Clark the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3-11, with Parry and Liam Livingstone claiming two apiece. …
