Police say apartment dweller shoots intruder

A Perry South man Monday night shot an intruder who police said had broken into the office of a construction company located below his apartment.

A statement from police said officers were called to the 400 block of Marshall Avenue just after 9 p.m. for a report of a man being shot.

Upon their arrival, police said, a 51-year-old resident of the second floor told them he had heard noise from the first-floor office. He retrieved a gun he owns and went downstairs to investigate.

He encountered the intruder and a struggle ensued, he told police.

The unidentified suspect, who was said to be 56 years old, was shot in the upper right leg during the struggle.

Paramedics took him to Allegheny General Hospital, where he was in stable condition.He faces charges of aggravated assault, burglary and criminal mischief. …
