The recent announcement that Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania was going to sell five of its nine camps created an uproar among Girl Scouts and their leaders alike.

Camp Singing Hills - one of the five - is situated among the most impoverished areas in the state's 67 counties: Clarion County has the fourth-highest percentage of people in poverty (18.3 percent), Forest is ninth (16.3 percent), Venango (16th) and Crawford, 11th (15.9 percent). Despite the camp area's dim per capita income, community-minded benefactors purchased and developed Camp Singing Hills. To this end, we request that GSWPA postpone the sale for up to a year so that the Friends of Singing Hills have sufficient time to develop a business plan that would result in mutually acceptable terms. …
