Chuck Berry's Family Opens Up 'Celebration of Life' Memorial to the Public

Passes for Chuck Berry's "Celebration of Life" will be available to the first 300 fans in line beginning at 11:30 a.m. Sunday outside the Pageant.

Only 300 passes will be distributed. The event originally had been open only to family and friends.

The "Celebration of Life" follows a public viewing from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Fans may wait in line for the viewing starting at 5 a.m.; that line closes at 11:30 a.m.

Pageant and Blueberry Hill owner Joe Edwards said the "Celebration of Life" will be more funeral than rock 'n' roll, with ministers, family members and perhaps some acoustic performances.

Edwards said it was "wonderfully generous of the family to open the event to the public" after the viewing. "That's the way Chuck would have wanted it. He always wanted to give everybody a chance to see him perform live, so this makes sense at this point and time. …
