How besotted with the GOP and Donald Trump must one be to be unalarmed that they have given internet service providers the right to sell everything about a person that can be derived from the person's online activities? To get an idea how valuable companies might consider such personal information, I attempted to find out the extent to which employers investigate the cyber presence of job applicants.

A 2016 article on CareerBuilder.com reports that 60 percent of employers use social networking sites to research job candidates, up from 52 percent the previous year and 11 percent in 2006. Also, more than a quarter of employers have found content online that has caused them to reprimand or fire an employee.

TheVerge.com lists representatives who supported the anti-privacy bill along with the money they received from telecommunications companies. …
