LIONS BAY, B.C. x-19s. Search and rescue crews have recovered the bodies of five B-C hikers who died on a mountain just north of Vancouver when the ledge of snow they were standing on gave way, sweeping them down hundreds of meters. Lions Bay search manager Martin Colwell says the hikers were likely standing on a cornice, where snow builds up beyond a solid rock ledge. He says it was an easy mistake for the hikers to not realize the instability of the snow.

TAG: Colwell says about 70 volunteer rescuers, along with police and other organizations, helped locate the victims and bring closure to the families within a day of the accident. He says counselling services are being made available to the families and volunteers involved. …
