REGINA. x-10s. Saskatchewan school boards say there's confusion over how the government wants them to meet a 3.5 per cent budget cut. Shawn Davidson, president of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, says a letter to board chairs from the government suggests the 3.5 per cent cut is on top of an average three per cent loss, or about 55 million dollars, in operating funding.

("...really significant.") (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)

TAG: Davidson says boards also need clarity because the letter says the 3.5 cut can't be achieved through staff reductions. However, Finance Minister Kevin Doherty has said that school boards can lay off employees.
