TAIPEI, Taiwan -- President Tsai Ing-wen on Friday announced plans to extend Taichung's MRT system to connect with neighboring Changhua.

Taichung's MRT Green Line - currently being built and scheduled for commercial operation by the end of next year - will add four more stations along the extension to Changhua, according to the newly unveiled plan, which is part of the central government's NT$880 billion nationwide infrastructure development project.

The president made the announcement while taking part in a ceremony marking Changhua's achievements' in developing green energy businesses, including operation of offshore wind farms.

Tsai noted that the multibillion-dollar infrastructure project is aimed at breaking city and county boundaries so as to develop the whole region rather than just isolated cities or counties. …
