SKIPPER Vincent Kompany admits he would have been 'done and dusted' without his 15 years' of experience following his latest comeback.

The Belgian made his second start in 10 days in the 3-0 win against Southampton on Saturday and opened the scoring with a trademark header in the second-half.

It was the 30-year-old's first goal for the club for 608 days and his passionate celebration capped an incredible turnaround after a year of injury hell.

And, after marking just his sixth appearance of the season with a man-of-the-match display at St Mary's, Kompany feels his mental strength has been as crucial as his fitness. "I would have been done and dusted if I needed every single time to get back in and time to adapt," he admits. "I have been lucky I can make use of a tremendous amount of experience. Where I am at physically does not matter.

"I know what I have to do and as long as I can organise the people around, I can always get a performance.

"The main thing is self-belief and experience. …
