SAM, 24, has wanted to be a doctor all his life. He is bright, compassionate and desperately wants the best for his patients.

Yet most of the time he is wracked with guilt and feels he is letting them down, and after just two years being a doctor he is considering quitting the NHS.

"I worked my a*** off in school to get to Med school, I worked my a*** off in Med school to get to where I am now," he explains. "And then you come out into the real world, and you try to put all that knowledge and idealism into a system that's only breaking down, a system that's overstretched, and underfunded - and it's demoralising," he admits.

This depressingly insightful four-part documentary series goes behind the scenes at Northampton General Hospital, but as the voiceover states, it could be any NHS hospital in the country, each of them shares the fundamental issues of having too many patients and not enough staff or resources to care for them. …
