ASTON Martin is to officially begin development of the former Ministry of Defence site that will become its second UK manufacturing plant.

MOD St Athan, in the Vale of Glamorgan, which has previously been home to the RAF No. 4 School of Technical Training and a number of British Army units, was officially handed over to Aston Martin by Secretary of State Sir Michael Fallon, who commented: This investment is great news for Wales.

Aston Martin's decision to build a new facility on MOD land we no longer need will also bring highskilled jobs to Wales. Releasing this site, and others, will enable us to invest in a better defence estate for the Armed Forces and their families.

When Aston Martin St Athan is completed, it will create 750 new jobs in South Wales, with production of the DBX - the company's new SUV, due to begin in 2019. …
