Dozens of United Fans Killed in Electric Cable Horror

MORE than 30 United fans are reported to have died in Nigeria after an electric cable fell on them as they watched the Reds beat Anderlecht in the Europa League.

The incident is said to have happened at a viewing centre in the southern port city of Calabar on Thursday.

A high-tension cable is reported to have fallen onto the building and at least 30 fans are said to have been electrocuted.

Following the incident, United said in a tweet: "Our thoughts go out to the United fans, their friends and families affected by the tragedy in Calabar, Nigeria, yesterday."

Local reports say there were 80 people in the building at the time but some managed to get away.

One survivor said a transformer near the viewing centre located in the Iyang-Esu area exploded during the match and this caused a high-tension cable to drop on the viewing centre. …
