JOSE Mourinho was pleased with how Anthony Martial coped as the lone striker during United's Premier League win at Burnley.

Martial started and finished a scintillating counter-attack to give the Reds the lead at Turf Moor and assisted Wayne Rooney's effort to cap an accomplished return to the starting line-up.

The 21-year-old's only previous outing as the centre forward under Mourinho came against Wigan in the FA Cup, when he struggled so badly he was switched to the left wing for the second half.

But with Zlatan Ibrahimovic possibly sidelined for the rest of the year, Mourinho was encouraged by how Martial fared in the No. 9 role.

"Yes, of course, it was very good," Mourinho agreed. "Very good with the ball, without the ball in the middle of two strong central defenders. …
