SASKATOON. x-06s. New research suggests underground stores of ancient water are not as safe from contamination as previously thought. It was once assumed rain and runoff from thousands of years ago trapped in soil and rock under the earth's surface was pure. Grant Ferguson is a geological engineering professor at the University of Saskatchewan who worked on the study. He says he was surprised how widespread the potential for contamination was.
