UPLANDS PARK > Student shot on way to bus stop * An 18-year-old high school student walking to a bus stop was shot by a robber who demanded his backpack, police say.

The victim was shot once in the torso. He is expected to survive, police say.

St. Louis County Police Officer Benjamin Granda said the victim had been walking to a bus stop about 6 a.m. in the 3600 block of Oakdale Avenue when three men drove up in a silver SUV. One of the men pulled a gun and demanded his backpack.

The victim dropped his backpack and tried to run away, Granda said. He was shot as he ran.

The gunman fled in the SUV, which had tinted windows. Police had no additional details on the vehicle or the suspects. Granda said the victim did not know the attacker.
