Salford to Face Halifax in Play-Offs after Superb 5-1 Victory

SALFORD CITY will face Halifax Town in the National League North play-offs after finishing the season with a dominant 5-1 home victory over rivals Darlington.

It meant that Salford leapfrogged Darlington in the table and have ended the campaign in fourth place.

Simon Grand opened the scoring for the hosts on 10 minutes but Mark Beck levelled things up for Darlington.

An own-goal restored Salford's lead, while Michael Nottingham, Fraser Horsfall and David Norris also netted in the emphatic win.

FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER also recorded the same scoreline as they picked up a 5-1 win over Gainsborough Trinity.

It was Gainsborough who went ahead through Chris Salt, but a hat-trick from George Thompson along with goals from Matt Wolfenden and Jerome Wright earned 13th placed FC United the win. …
