DOZENS of parents, teaching assistants and children came together to join in protest against government cuts to schools.

The rally, organised by Moss Side Parents, was held at Alexandra Park, in Whalley Range. Organisers say that the changes proposed will have a 'devastating' impact on their children and their lives.

According to the group, if the cuts are as deep as they fear, then Manchester could lose up to Pounds 731 less per pupil and more than 1,000 teaching jobs.

Single mum and local teaching assistant Lou Nevin said, "I hear about teaching assistants from Cumbria to Collyhurst losing their jobs. I'm scared I could be next."

Teachers and education workers from as far as Durham travelled to Whalley Range to show their anger at the proposed cuts.

Campaigners then made their way through the park, holding placards and banners, with one child's sign reading, "Please don't sack my mum". …
