As a voter, registered nonaffiliated, I have to take issue with the unwarranted attacks recently being leveled against our U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, more than likely in an attempt to try to unseat him in his next re-election campaign.

To begin with, I found that Mr. Murphy does have an exemplary military service record. He is a commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve Medical Service Corps working on wounded warriors cases involving traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Mr. Murphy recently had his HR 2646 - Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act of 2016 - signed into law by President Barack Obama. If you know anything about this piece of legislation, it was indeed worthy of all the praise Mr. Obama gave.

In a December press release, Mr. Murphy said the law "will save lives because someone in psychiatric crisis should get treatment in a hospital bed and not locked up in a jail cell or dumped onto the street. …
