The reeve and two councillors from a rural municipality in Manitoba have resigned, citing name-calling and belligerent behaviour.

Reeve Jackie Hunt and councillors Jeannot Robert and Ron Mamchuk all handed in their resignations to the chief administrative officer of Ritchot.

Hunt said in a statement that the council has not been able to function as a group because of bullying.

The resignations mean Ritchot's council does not have enough people to fully operate, as there are only two councillors remaining.

The province says an administrator will be appointed to run the R-M with byelections to be called as soon as possible. (CTV Winnipeg)



The University of Winnipeg is announcing cuts and eliminating some sports teams in an effort to save 3.7 million dollars in costs.

There will be 4.5 senior positions that will remain vacant, and the university says the jobs of dean of Science, dean of Kinesiology and director of the Global College will be filled by internal candidates on an acting basis for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Salaries for non-unionized staff will be frozen for 2017 and 2018, including the senior executive team, and numerous support staff positions will remain vacant.

Effective this spring, the university will eliminate the following sports teams: men's baseball and wrestling, and women's wrestling. (The Canadian Press)



The snow's barely melted from the ground and already residents of Saskatchewan are on the lookout for funnel clouds.

Environment Canada issued a special weather advisory just before noon yesterday, warning weak rotation could spawn typically harmless funnel clouds. It was lifted around suppertime.

The advisory covered a wide swath of the province including Meadow Lake, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and areas close to the American border. …
