Wood, Helen Schenlerdied in St. Louis on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the age of 97, following a long illness. A graduate of Washington University, as well as Columbia University in New York, she is survived by a daughter and son, together with three grandchildren. Helen was the daughter of Walter and Helen Schenler and was born in St. Louis on November 14, 1919. Since Walter was an engineering graduate of Purdue and founder of Superior Steel Company, no doubt her parents were pleased when she met engineering student James Wood at Washington University. Helen and Jim both graduated in 1940 and were married on December 27, 1941. Their first son was born while Jim was serving as an officer on a destroyer in the Pacific during World War II. Following the war, Jim joined Superior Steel, eventually becoming its President when her father retired in the 1960s. …
