IS THIS the smallest house in Greater Manchester? At just 176sq ft this one-bedroom cottage may be tiny but it is proving a big talking point in the quiet market town of Edgeley, in Stockport.

It started life as a stables but don't worry, it doesn't come with any livestock, and has been brought up to date over the past 300 years, with everything a modern home needs.

Built in 1795 for one of the region's wealthiest men, William Sykes, who set up a successful bleaching company in Edgeley as part of his family's estate.

According to Joules Estate Agents: 'It is the smallest home we have ever sold but it has got the biggest heart'. Inside, the cottage boasts a cosy living room, with space for a sofa and a small coffee table.
