Salford's Shoot-Out Misery Means They Miss out on Final

SALFORD CITY have missed out on the National League North play-off final after suffering a semi-final defeat to Halifax Town.

The tie had to be decided by a shoot-out after the scores were level at 2-2 on aggregate after two legs, but Halifax comfortably dispatched their spot-kicks to run out 3-0 winners.

After a goalless 90 minutes, Halifax went ahead in extra time thanks to a strike from Richard Peniket. Salford pegged them back after Michael Nottingham levelled things up, meaning the match went to a penalty shoot-out.

Salford failed to score any of their efforts, with James Poole, Richie Allen and Sam Walker all missing.

That allowed Matty Brown to score the winning spot-kick and book his side a place in the play-off final at the expense of Salford, where they will now take on Chorley. …
