All eyes are on residents of Carrick, Beechview, Brookline, Overbrook and part of Mount Washington, particularly the registered Democrats. There are plenty of elections happening this May, but the city council race for these neighborhoods is the one in a real contest.

Voters have two neighbors running for the council seat, but their platforms and campaigns could not be more different. Anthony Coghill is a local roofer who is known in the community through his work as the 19th Ward boss. Ashleigh Deemer isn't a new face to the community either; she has been working every day to make her neighborhoods better.

Mr. Coghill says he wants safer streets, clean neighborhoods and south Pittsburgh's fair share of resources. A vote for Ms. Deemer ensures that and more.

Throughout the past six years that she has served the district's constituents, she has taken absentee landlords to court, managed to get troublesome tenants evicted and gotten some of the most unsightly areas cleaned up. …
