PEP Guardiola claims City need more players like David Silva to raise them to the level of Europe's elite.

The midfielder was at his most majestic orchestrating the Blues' 5-0 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Having been a fitness doubt beforehand with a knee injury, the Spaniard opened the scoring after two minutes - and tormented Palace until being substituted shortly past the hour mark.

The 31-year-old left the pitch to rapturous applause, with even the visiting supporters joining in after watching him score his 50th goal in English football.

His strike-rate is perhaps the only part of his game which precludes him from being considered among the very best of his generation.

But Guardiola believes Silva is the player who could grace the stage of the Real Madrids and Barcelonas of the world. …
