BARCELONA could have signed Gabriel Jesus for a bargain Pounds 2.1m two years ago.

But they hesitated, and when the City's star transfer release clause had risen, they decided that the teenager would not be able to cope with the pressure of the Nou Camp.

The Blues had no such qualms, and they landed him for a Pounds 27m bargain.

According to Sport, Andre Cury - the man who sorted out their successful bid for Neymar in 2013 - tipped off Barca in 2015 that they had the chance to grab Jesus, a rising star of Brazilian football.

The idea was that he would join the Barcelona B team and hopefully graduate into the first team. Barca passed on the opportunity, and by the following summer, when Jesus' reputation had grown as he led Palmeiras towards the league title, his value had grown considerably. …
