Asus Q1 Profit Takes a Hit but Meets Guidance

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Asus published its first-quarter financials on Thursday, announcing revenue results on par with the company's expectations.

For the first quarter of 2017, Asus's net income after taxes was NT$3.6 billion with NT$4.9 earnings per share - that's a 26 percent fall from the previous quarter and a 12 percent decline from the same period last year. The company said its profits were hit by rising prices of components and a strong local currency.

Asus Chairman Jonney Shih ([...]) announced his outlook for the second quarter and Asus' growth plans for the years to come.

According to local media, Shih said the company was betting big on new forms of products and services in the next 5 to 10 years, highlighting areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things. …
