CORONATION Street favourite Connor McIntyre is amused that his villainous character Pat Phelan has been likened to controversial new American president-elect, Donald Trump.

Connor, whose character has been turning stomachs since he arrived on Corrie in 2013, believes that the scheming builder would have voted for Trump.

And he thinks that businessminded Phelan and The Leader Of The Free World would be 'kindred spirits.' .

Speaking to us at the Royal Television Society North West Awards held in Manchester, Connor said: "On social media he has been described as the Donald Trump of Weatherfield.

"I suspect that Phelan would have been a Trump voter. He's a businessman who seems to take that very seriously and I think that they would be kindred spirits."

Connor says he's having fun playing such a menacing character, who first arrived on the cobbles to wreak havoc for the Windass family, ripping apart Anna's relationship with Owen Armstrong by blackmailing her into sleeping with him in an Indecent Proposalstyle plot in 2014. …
