IN 1961, The Beatles arrived in South Manchester to perform in what was a wheeltappers and shunters type venue called The Yewtopia - a cabaret club built on the side of the Yew Tree Hotel on Yew Tree Road in the Northern Moor area.

The four lads arrived, with Pete Best on drums, in their beat up transit van wearing black leather jackets, jeans and alien hair cuts, bringing with them an attitude and assured cockiness that would be their downfall on this particular evening.

It was a behaviour and look that was to be overhauled in 1962 under the guiding hand of manager Brian Epstein.

However, at this point their appearance and attitude was not well received by the club secretary, especially when he discovered they were to perform in what they'd turned up in! …
