Oakland Catholic was a big underdog before its WPIAL Class 2A girls lacrosse semifinal match against top-seeded and undefeated Quaker Valley.

By halftime, the Quakers had a 6-3 lead and were rolling towards a championship game appearance.

But the Eagles came out of the break with a vengeance, scoring the first six goals of the second half and holding Quaker Valley scoreless for a 14-minute stretch to pull off a shocking 10-9 victory at North Allegheny.

"They never gave up. They never gave in," said Oakland Catholic coach Anne Madarasz.

Oakland Catholic (14-2) will face Hampton in its first title-game appearance.

Freshman Ashley Sullivan led the charge with four goals, while sophomore Megan Cyterski chipped in three more.

Quaker Valley (15-1) got four goals from Rachel Bould.
