RAFA Benitez is ready to offer Eliaquim Mangala a Premier League lifeline.

City want to find a permanent buyer for the French defender this summer, with Newcastle ready to challenge Valencia - where he has been out on loan - for his signature.

Pep Guardiola has made it clear he does not consider Mangala part of his plans as the Catalan targets at least one new centre-back this summer.

Leonardo Bonucci and Virgil van Dijk are both targets for City, who were forced to convert Aleks Kolarov into a centre back in Guardiola's first season at the Etihad.

Benitez will know he can pick up Mangala at a fraction of the £42m City paid for the 26-year-old in 2014.

City have already released five out of contract players Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna, Jesus Navas and Willy Caballero, but they also want to find permanent destinations for a host of highearning on-loan players like Mangala, Joe Hart, Samir Nasri and Wilfried Bony. …
