BACKGROUND EDERSON is a Brazilian national who holds an EU passport, making a move to England easier.

He was born in Sao Paulo and started out with his local side Sao Paulo FC before moving to Benfica at the age of 16.

It's not been a smooth ride, with Benfica deciding to let him leave two years later after he failed to make an impression and he headed to the third tier in Portugal with Ribeirao.

An impressive season there saw him move back to the top division with Rio Ave in 2012.

He had to wait for his chance at the Vila do Conde-based club but finally it came during the 2014/15 season and he was soon established as Primeira Liga's side number one.

Moraes was starting to attract attention and Benfica were quick to snap him up again, with the stopper signing a five-year contract after a deal worth 500,000 euros was agreed.

After a spell as reserve team keeper, he broke into the Benfica first-team in March 2016, dislodging Julio Cesar, and has since produced a series of impressive performances.

Benfica went on a ten-match winning streak, winning the Primeira Liga and Taca da Liga with Ederson performing well throughout.
