A SIGNIFICANT number of officers will remain on the streets of Greater Manchester throughout the week in response to the Arena suicide bomb, GMP's chief constable has confirmed.

Military support began to be phased down both in the region and across the country last night.

But Ian Hopkins said 18 armed response vehicles would remain on patrol in the region, with a specific concentration on the city centre.

Speaking a week on from the dreadful attack which claimed the lives of 22 children and adults, chief constable Hopkins revealed the extent of the police response.

Police officers are working 12-hour shifts and rest days have been cancelled.

He said there are currently 18 working 'crime scenes' - locations and sites under investigation - and revealed there would be no let up in the effort and manpower.

Next weekend is set to be as busy as the weekend just gone. …
