Reds Confirm Youngsters Will Leave the Academy This Summer

UNITED youngsters Kayne Diedrick-Roberts and Faustin Makela have left the club.

Diedrick-Roberts, 18, joined United from Fulham in 2015 and scored in the Under-18s win at Middlesbrough early in 2016-17 but was outshone by United's other youngsters.

The Lewisham-born forward, who lined up alongside Marcus Rashford in the academy attack last season, headed to Bournemouth on a youth loan for more minutes in December and returned to make his only United Reserves start in the draw with Leicester in April.

Academy captain Callum Whelan confirmed Diedrick-Roberts' departure in an Instagram Story earlier this month.

Makela, 17, was hampered by growth-related injuries which restricted him to just one academy start in successive seasons before his final campaign with the club.

Congo-born midfielder Makela made his Under-23 debut at Leicester in April but had already embarked on a youth loan with League One Bury due to a lack of playing time. …
