HALIFAX - Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil is refusing to comment on allegations from a former staffer that the Liberals turned their back on her when she was assaulted by another party staffer.

In an interview with Halifax's weekly newspaper The Coast, Michelle Coffin gave her account of a 2014 assault at the hands of the premier's former communications director, Kyley Harris.

Harris was her boyfriend at the time, and Coffin was a Liberal insider who had herself held the top communications job.

But she says the party turned its back on her when the domestic violence case came to light.

A spokesman in the premier's office says McNeil commented on the issue during the recent election campaign, and would not speak further on it. …
