Trump Approves Request for Federal Aid to Missouri Flood Victims

President Donald Trump has approved federal disaster assistance for Missouri following historic floods in several counties from April 28 through May 11.

Gov. Eric Greitens, along with the state's two U.S. senators and eight House members, penned a letter to the president on May 25 requesting for a "major disaster declaration" after heavy rain and floods that resulted in millions of dollars in damages to infrastructure, homes, roads and bridges.

Residents in 27 Missouri counties will become eligible for federal assistance, including St. Louis and Jefferson counties.

State and federal officials estimated more than $86 million in expenses and losses due to the storms.

Residents may apply for assistance through the next 60 days, including help with housing, moving and storage costs, medical needs and cleanup costs not covered by insurance. …
