NAT116 - (Alta-Assault-Victim-Confined) TORONTO. x-18s. A woman's action group is shocked at the treatment of an Alberta sexual assault victim who was arrested and shackled to ensure she testified against her attacker. The indigenous woman, who was 28, was forced to spend five nights in the Edmonton Remand Centre during her testimony at a 2015 preliminary hearing for the man who attacked her. She was also shackled and forced to ride in the same van as the man eventually convicted of her attack. Kim Stanton, the legal director of the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund, says the woman's treatment was shocking. ("..beyond appalling.") (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)

TAG: Alberta Justice Minister Kathleen Ganley has launched an independent investigation into what she calls the failure of the provincial justice system at every level in the way it treated the victim of a vicious sexual assault.
